10 Cloud Computing Terms That You Need To Know

The term cloud computing induces about 90% of the population into a state of confusion. However, this doesn't have to be the case. With the help of this brief glossary, you'll have no problem sorting your PaaS from your IaaS and more...
SaaS is an acronym standing for Software as a Service. SaaS refers to cloud applications run over the internet. The advantage of doing this is that cloud applications do not have to be installed or run on the user's computer. Popular examples of SaaS are web based email clients and twitter. Many people use SaaS services without realising.
PaaS is an acronym standing for platform as a service. PaaS refers to cloud platform services, in effect; this means that operating systems and associated services can be delivered over the internet as a cloud service.
IaaS is an acronym standing for infrastructure as a service. IaaS refers to the equipment needed to support IT operations being provided as a service over the internet. This equipment includes but is not limited to storage, servers, hardware and networking components. IaaS is sometimes referred to as HaaS or Hardware as a Service, although this is not as common as it once was.
A Datacentre is a (usually purpose built) facility used to house computing equipment and any associated components. Data Centre's usually contain climate control and back-up power supplies to ensure the efficient and continuous operation of the equipment housed within. Another feature of data centres is that they are highly secure, with high-level physical and digital security.
Online Backup or Cloud Backup as it's sometimes referred as, is the process of digitally backing up your documents or files over an internet connection onto remote hardware.
VoIP is an acronym standing for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a method of transferring voice data over the internet to replicate a telephone service. VoIP is delivered as a service, usually from OTT (Over the Top) clients such as Skype. For a VoIP call to be good quality, a fast internet connection is needed.
SIP Trunks are, in effect, virtual phone lines that operate through your computer and broadband connection for use when making VoIP calls. They should be thought of as the virtual equivalent to copper wiring in the ground.
Cloud Hosting, sometimes referred to cloud server hosting is a service in which hosting is made available to clients over an internet connection. Cloud hosting differs from other types of hosting in one key way. Instead of being hosted on a single server, cloud hosting uses a number of connected servers to form a pool of resource that a number of clients can draw from.
Cloud App is an abbreviation of the term cloud application and is a term used to describe a piece of computer software that is not run or installed locally, but is instead delivered as a service across the internet. An example of this could be Microsoft Office 365, an internet based version of Microsoft office. For more information on this concept, please see SaaS (Software as a Service).
SLA is an acronym standing for Service Level Agreement. While SLAs aren't exclusive to cloud services, they are particularly relevant. A SLA is a contractual agreement between 2 or more parties and acts as a guarantee in regards to the level of service that is to be provided. In cloud computing, availability, reliability and security are 3 key areas to consider.
Thanks for reading the glossary; I hope it has been of some help.

Benefits of Custom LCD Displays

Custom LCD displays have a lot of benefits to offer. This is a new technology that has proven to be of great use. One of the benefits is that you get to choose the size of the display you want. This means that you are no longer limited to using a display with a preset size. If you want a display that can be seen from far, you can choose custom LCD displays with large screens. You are also free to choose icons that will ensure your product stand out and attract more people.
Custom LCD displays help you stand out from your competitors. If you have a display that just looks the same as what other players in the industry are using, then you will not have much of an impact. However, with the custom display monitors, you can choose features that are unique to you. This will set you apart from the rest and give your clients something new to look forward to. This puts you ahead of your competitors by a large margin while making your product stand out.
Custom LCD screens are not expensive to own and maintain. You do not have to buy large quantities that you do not need since the minimum amount is quite low. The tooling costs for custom LCD are also lower as compared to the TFT or OLED's. Therefore, by choosing to use LCD, you will also lower your overhead costs by a great margin. This offers you the flexibility to own many displays without significantly increasing expenditure.
Custom LCD screens can be operated in parallel where all the monitors show the same thing. On the other hand, they can also be operated in series so that each monitor displays something different. You are free to choose the display mode you want depending on the products you want to advertise. You do not need to worry about technical knowhow when using the custom LCD screens. There is always customer support when you need it.
The support is useful when you are designing a custom concept for your LCD displays up to the point of full production. Therefore, even if you are not experienced in designing, you can just give an idea of what you have and the staff members will help you with the rest. You will get a list of the LCD panels available including the backlight options such as LED or side lit. There are also backlight color options and the type of LCD.
Focus LCD screens are shipped in the shortest time possible. This allows you to get the samples and the final product in no time so that you do not put a halt in your business due to lack of displays. The LCD monitors are useful in different market areas such as industrial, transportation and even power conversion. If you feel you need a custom display, then you should take time and talk to the experts for advice and designing of monitors that will suit your business.

Computer: The Most Efficient Servant

One of the greatest advances in modern technology has been the invention of computers. They are widely used in industry and universities. Now there is hardly any sphere of human life where computers have not been pressed into the service of Man. We are heading fast towards a situation when a computer will be as much part of a man's daily life as a toothbrush.
Computers are capable of doing extremely complicated work in all branches of learning. They can solve the most complex mathematical problems or put thousands of unrelated facts in order. For instance, they can provide information on the best way to prevent traffic accidents, or they can count the number of times the word 'and' has been used in the Bible. Because they work accurately and at high speeds, they save research workers years of hard work. This whole process by which machines can be used to work for us has been called 'automation'. In the future, automation may enable human beings far more leisure than they do today. The coming of automation is bound to have important social consequences.
Some years ago an expert on automation, Sir Leon Bagrit, pointed out that it was a mistake to believe that these machines could 'think'. There is no possibility that human beings will be 'controlled by machines'. Though computers are capable of learning from their mistakes and improving their performance, they need detailed instructions from human beings to be able to operate. They can never, as it were, lead independent lives or 'rule the world' by making decisions on their own.
Sir Leon said that in the future, computers would be developed which would be small enough to carry in your pockets and even watches. Ordinary people already use the Internet to obtain valuable information. Computers can be plugged into a national network and be used like radios. People going on holidays can check out weather conditions; car drivers can be given alternate routes to avoid traffic jams. The translating machines have enabled people who do not share a common language to talk to each other without any difficulty or to read foreign publications.
It is impossible to assess the importance of a machine of this sort, for many international misunderstandings are caused simply through our failure to understand each other. Computers are of great use in public hospitals also. By providing a machine with a patient's systems, a doctor will be able to diagnose the nature of his illness. Similarly, the machines are used to keep a check on a patient's health record and bring it up-to-date. Doctors, therefore have immediate access to a great many facts which help them in their work. Book keepers and accountants, too, have been relieved of dull clerical work, for the tedious task of compiling and checking lists of figures can be done entirely by machines. Computers will also be able to tell the exact age of a man or how many years he is going to live with the help of his blood picture. Computers are the most efficient servants man has ever had and there is no limit to the way they can be used to improve our lives.

Why Your Business Needs Video Marketing

There was once a time when video marketing was cost prohibitive for a business. Cameras had to be rented, cameramen had to be hired, videos had to be professionally edited, and then ad time on television stations had to be paid for. However, as the internet has become farther-reaching and more people have access to computers and the internet, and as video cameras and video editing equipment have become cheaper and easier to use, video marketing has become an inexpensive and effective way for business owners to get the word out about their products and services. If you have not already added video marketing to your advertising strategy list, here are some good reasons to start now.
1. It has a personal feel: With video marketing, you have an opportunity to talk directly to your customers. It's one thing to see a product or service displayed, but quite another to see the business's proprietor actually speaking to customers and telling them why they should trust the company and use these products and services. Seeing a business owner's face makes potential clients feel more comfortable about contacting the business. You can even ask regular, loyal customers to give their own testimonies, which gives your business credibility.
2. Video marketing is inexpensive: As mentioned earlier, creating a video to market your business and products used to cost a great deal of money. Filming and editing services had to be hired to create the video, and then ad time had to be purchased on local or national television spots. Now, however, video marketing is very inexpensive. Good digital video cameras are affordable, and quality video editing software can be purchased for under $100, software that is very easy for amateur videographers to learn how to use (no longer is film school a requirement for knowing how to edit videos!). Since there are so many free video hosting sites out there, such as YouTube and Vimeo, you do not have to pay for ad space to be seen by clients! You can start getting YouTube and Vimeo views for little to no cost.
3. Having an online video increases your business's presence in search engines: As soon as user-created online video content began becoming popular a few years ago, popular search engines like Google began returning videos as results for engine searches. If you use the correct keywords for your business, each time someone searches for those keywords on Google, they have a high chance of pulling up a search result featuring one of your videos, thus increasing your web presence and possibly generating new customer leads!
4. Your business can use video marketing as a way to serve customers: Consider this: if your business is promoting a product or service, sometimes customers will have questions about that product or will want to know what to expect from your services. You can answer all of their questions by making a simple video that either explains how to use your product or what customers can expect from the services you provide.
However you choose to use video marketing, attempt to create videos that are fresh, original, and informative, videos that will get you as many YouTube or Vimeo views as possible. Reach customers and let them know why they should choose your business!

Comparison Between the Best Smartphones Ever - Samsung Galaxy S3 Vs S4

Even though both the handsets look similar, there are some in-depth features which distinguish one from the other. The successor "S4" definitely has a lot of new features but still has it revolutionized the smartphone industry, just as the S3 did?
Let us have an in-depth review between the two smartphones, in each and every stream.
Size
The two handsets are pretty much the same size. The only noticeable difference is that the S4 is thinner than the S3. The S4 is also just marginally lighter than the S3.
Design
Both the handsets are much similar in their design. But still the S4 has a much sleeker look than the S3 because the plastic "cheap" outer seam cover has been replaced by a firm metal cover.
Display
Samsung has increased the screen size of the S4 by 0.2" to 4.99". While a larger screen gives you more worthy viewing experience, it also creates a bigger reach from one side of the screen to the other, which at times proves to be a flaw. As for screen resolution the S4 definitely comes out the winner. It has full HD (1920 x 1080) and a pixel density of 441 ppi. This really does produce a crisp picture. The S3 isn't far behind though; it's got a resolution of 1280 x 720, which is still very impressive.
Power
Samsung has doubled the RAM in the S4 to 2GB and it has also increased the handset's processing power. The change in processor power won't make a huge difference - it's mainly for activities such as gaming that you'll need it.
Camera
The S4 has a 13 megapixel camera and provides you with much better quality pictures, when compared to the 8 megapixel camera of S3.
Battery
The Samsung's galaxy S4 has a battery of 2600mAh and provides you with much better stand by time when compared to the 2100mAh battered S3. Both the batteries are removable.
Software
Even though the S4 has the upper hand with a lot of entirely new features, with the next update, S3 will also be featuring these new updates. As of now, let us have a brief look at how the S4 slightly has the lead over the S3:
• The ability to disable the lock screen on trusted Wi-Fi networks
• Quick Glance to show you important notifications when you reach for the phone
• An entire grid of toggles available from the swipe down menu
• Air View & Air Gestures
Summary
To summarize, here are some key features that S4 has, when compared to S3:
• Larger display, with a higher resolution
• More built-in features
• Better camera
• More processing power
• Newer version of MHL (TV out), which requires less cables to set up
• Better battery life
• Slimmer and lighter design
• Better accessory range
To conclude, does the S4 really replace S3 as the best smartphone ever in the market? It is definitely a tough question to answer. There are only a few additional features in S4, but does it really have the ability to overcome the S3? People who give much preference to camera, fancier features (which is not necessary for daily use), can go for the S4. But otherwise, S3 is still the best ever in the market for its affordable price and note-worthy features.

Top 10 Tips to Boost the Performance of Your PC

A slowdown in the performance of a PC or a laptop can be caused by many factors. Hence, let's try to highlight this issue in a somewhat general sense here for your needs could be of a diverse nature.
If you notice a visible decrease in the performance or pace of operations of your system, whether it is old or new, you should suspect a few factors for this and set them right earnestly. They are:
i. The broadband connection you use
Sometimes, you may be misled to believe that your PC is slow when the real culprit is the broadband connection you are using. You may have to sort this issue out by approaching the respective ISPs.
ii. The system
In case you find that the Internet connection is fine, then close in your suspicion on your PC or laptop. Factors like virus can harm your system. Hence, make sure you install a reputed anti-virus product on your PC and even malware bytes if you think of providing a two-tier protection for your machine.
iii. Recently installed software or programs
In case you have a tendency to install many programs at a go or have installed a few add-ons recently, then they could be the cause for the slowdown. Too many programs running simultaneously can reduce the pace of operations of your PC.
iv. The storage limit of the system
This is mostly witnessed in the case of a system that you have been using for quite some time. It is natural that you would have collected a large number of files like photos, videos, games, song tracks, and so on. Check the capacity of the system, the current level of usage and the amount of free disk space available.
v. The capacity of the RAM
If you use the system for many types of operations, then make sure the RAM has a higher capacity. Otherwise, it will not be able to function in a fast-paced manner.
vi. Settings such as wallpapers or animations
Did you know that even a simple stretching of the wallpaper on the system can reduce the rate at which it operates? Similarly, animations can be turned off.

Computer Skills For Seniors

Whether you have been using computers for the last few decades or you are just coming around to the hardware, there are several specific skills you need to know, as these are going to give you the ability to perform all of your basic features on a computer system, without requiring assistance or the need for help from an outside source.
Create/Log Into Account
Chances are, you are going to use the Internet in order to stay in touch with family members and friends. There is a world of opportunity when it comes to the Internet, you just need to know how to create an account and how to log into it. While there are dozens of these different accounts, most are incredibly easy to start up and only require a limited amount of knowledge in order to start up the service.
First, you need to type the address into the blank URL bar at the top of the Internet browser (the long, white, rectangle). Now, choose the "Create New Account" option (or variation of this, as some websites are going to use different phrasing). Now, select a username. This can be anything you want, but make sure to use a number in it. With so many people on the Internet, most usernames are taken, but the number helps ensure you can use it. Now, type in a desired password. This needs to have both letters and numbers in it. The more unique the password the harder it is for someone to come up with. Fill in the rest of the information required by the account and submit it. In no time you'll have you're very own account, whether it is for social media, email or something else.
Word Processor
Knowing the ins and outs of a Word Processor is very important, and while you can learn the basics on your own, utilizing a computer college or computer courses is very effective with this. The word processor is something you would type anything from a letter to a paper on. This is a very helpful program that has a large potential for what you can do with it. Computer training makes sure you know how to use all of the key functions.
Update Computer
Computers need regular updates in order to run properly, so you need to know how to update the computer. Most modern operating systems now simply prompt you with a pop-up window, instructing you as to the update. However, some older operating systems require you to perform the download and installation of the software on your own. Knowing how to do this is important, and the computer college is going to give you the necessary training required in order to perform the update, no matter the operating system you are using.

Smarter Websites For Children

Are you looking for a career where you have the freedom to really get creative and have fun? Creating websites for children offers endless opportunities to be creative and innovative. Children's websites have unique requirements with few limitations. Bold colors, stimulating interfaces, and a need for engaging graphic displays are at the heart of designing for children's websites. And the need for captivating, fun, and child-friendly websites is growing as more and more of the preschool and school age set join the ranks of web users. If you'd like to learn more about designing websites for children, web design courses are a great way to get started in this fun and creative field.
Why Design Websites for Children?
Computer knowledge is a needed skill at an increasingly young age in this modern world. Children as young as five are using computers in school settings for learning and playing, and computer-based testing is readily becoming the norm for everything from government testing to routine classroom assessment. And parents are steadily moving away from the TV as a supplemental entertainer and educator as more child-friendly educational and interactive apps and websites become available. Even preschool age children are being educated and entertained on tablets, smartphones, and computers. This means that the demand for engaging and attractive websites for children is constantly growing.
How To Make a Smarter Website for Children:
  1. Engage the Senses: Children respond best to material that stimulates their senses. Bright, vivid colors, and pleasing arrangements are some of the things you'll learn in graphic design courses that help you grab your audience visually, but web design courses can help you take it further, adding sound to engage them audibly, and even indirectly stimulating the senses of taste and smell with vivid description, apt color choices, and careful arrangements.

  2. Set the Mood: Children love to learn new things, and they'll keep coming back for more if they leave feeling happy. As well as bright colors, an engaging and memorable children's website offers familiar characters or images that children can relate to. Animals and friendly faces encourage children to participate and want to keep coming back.

  3. Interactive and Larger-than-Life: For children to feel engaged with the site, they need to be able to interact and easily recognize important features of the page. Oversize buttons, larger characters, and making the transition and call-to-action sections easily found and used, are all important aspects of a successful children's website.
Web Design Courses and Website Design for Children:
Creating a fun, user-friendly experience for children is a unique aspect of web design that relies heavily on the material you cover in graphic design courses to create bright, colorful, stimulating, and visually appealing websites that engage and entertain little minds. If you have a creative mind and love the idea of engineering innovative and engaging material for children, look into web design courses near you.
Visit Academy of Learning College for more information on other career paths like home inspection courses.

How to Get Free Web Hosting

Nowadays, very few people know how to get free web hosting. Most people are only too willing to shell out the necessary amount just to get their own paid hosting. The fact that the cost of web hosting in general has gone down these past few years also makes it easier for people to just go ahead and bite the bullet, so to speak.
Unfortunately, this rush to get paid hosting makes people forget that sometimes, they are just wasting money because there are website owners whose needs can be met easily by free hosting. The case is especially true for people who are not planning to make a living out of their website. If you belong to this category, you need to learn how to get free web hosting so that you can make the most out of the Internet, without spending a single dime. Here are a few things that will help you:
1. Look at Content Management Sites/Blogging Services - services such as Blogger and WordPress provide free blog hosting services to users. If your only purpose in a website is to post articles, upload the occasional pictures here and there, both services will suit your needs. The advantage of this is that you're backed by large companies with robust backends that ensure minimal downtime.
2. Look at Free Web Hosting Sites - there are actually hosts out there that offer free web hosting services to users, with a catch, of course. While the hosting is free and you will never be required to shell out a single dime, there are various limitations, such as limited webspace and bandwidth, and you'll have to deal with restrictive TOSes. This is understandable, as they're not getting any money from you and they want to protect their own interests as much as possible. Additionally, these types of hosts will install ads - either banner or pop up, or both - on your website, because that's usually where they'll get the income needed to support your free site.
3. Look for Sponsors - there are some paid web hosting services that have programs wherein they sponsor sites that meet their requirements. For example, they may want to sponsor websites of charity organizations or non-profit websites. Or they may sponsor a non-monetized website with high quality content. Other hosts will also offer free hosting on a quid pro quo status, where they will host your website for free in return for advertising (this only happens in cases where you already have a website that is attracting a lot of traffic, though)
4. Take Advantage of Third Party Multimedia Hosting Services - if you're running your website on a free host, chances are there's very little bandwidth and storage to go around with. This doesn't mean you'll have to resign yourself to pure text - you can go crazy with images and video content, as long as you host it somewhere else. Many image and web hosting sites, such as Flickr and YouTube, allow you to upload your files on their servers and hotlink or embed it to your own website, therefore giving you the ability to offer multimedia content to your readers, without using up your free host's precious bandwidth and storage.

Can Smart TVs Really Watch You?

We are well aware that we are living in an era of smart TVs, smartphones, smart pads, smart pens etc and sometimes, we tend to wonder if these gadgets are really that smart?
Can my smart TV see what I'm doing?
Today's televisions are equipped with smart features like microphones, cameras, Internet connectivity and lots of different applications, which make the experience really close to PCs. A recent report discovered a security glitch that made many of these features, unready for the real world.
These flaws were discovered on some Samsung Smart TV devices, which enabled hackers to turn on the built-in camera without you noticing any slight trace on the screen. While you are sitting at home and watching your favorite TV series or a sports match, a hacker placed anywhere in the world could be watching you. Some hackers even lure the users to malicious websites to steal their bank account information.
Shortly after this was discovered from several iSEC Partners security researchers, Samsung fixed the problem sending software updates to all those TVs which were affected by this bug. This security leak speaks for itself and opens a bigger problem for all the gadgets, that have built-in cameras and are connected to the Internet. Cameras are not the only thing involved in this. There are also heating control and security systems that are controlled remotely through wireless connection. Without the proper security, hackers will be unstoppable and will steal all of your data.
In the Samsung Smart TVs case, the researchers claimed that they can easily enter the web browser using this glitch. This will give hackers the required access to all the functions, which can be controlled by the browser. Aaron Grattafiori, iSEC analyst, said that if only one application is vulnerable than the entire TV is vulnerable to attacks.
According to the report, the researchers were able to hack the browser on a way that will lead the users to any website chosen by the hackers. This research was made over various models of Samsung Smart TVs released in 2012 and was presented this week.
Bigger companies like Samsung are paying some hackers to find security glitches in their new devices, just like those found by iSEC. The researchers in this company believe that there are dozens of other TVs that are having the same problem and more flaws that can't be detected. The iSEC researchers warned the users to make regular updates coming from the vendors, like they do with system updates on their smartphones. This should help to keep them protected.
Hackers are taking advantage of the technological revolution more than we, the users, do. Usually, those hackers who proved something or found a major flaw in a security system, are paid to improve it, or employed in the company for maintaining that very same system.

How to Protect Against Identity Theft With Strong Passwords

We've all seen it on our favorite detective shows on TV. The computer expert is trying to access someone's account. In no time the expert guesses the password - it was the name of the subject's daughter.
It can happen to you. If you use passwords like names, dates, and addresses then somebody else may be able to guess them. Unscrupulous people can then gain access to your accounts.
Don't think that people can't guess your passwords. People who know you also know what you like. If they want to break into one of your accounts, they can start guessing based on the things you like. A funny example of this is the Seinfeld episode The Secret Code in which Kramer is able to guess George's ATM code.
So just what is a strong password? It is by definition is one that is hard to guess. A combination of random letters and numbers is a strong password. Including both uppercase and lowercase letters makes it stronger. Passwords also need to be long enough to make them harder to guess. It is a good idea to have your passwords at least 10 characters long. If your login allows it, including symbols such as @ or $ will make them even stronger.
An example of a strong password is "uxSivy1UQ8". An example of a password including symbols is "Q6Su4^3Gb@". Passwords like this are impossible to guess and will help keep your login accounts secure.
All this seems great in theory but hard to implement in practice. After all, how does someone create a strong password? People are just not good at coming up with random numbers and letters. If you just smash letters on your keyboard to make a password, then you will probably come up with combinations such as "qwerty" which happen to be common passwords that hackers will try. Even if you had some method of coming up with strong passwords, how would you remember them?
The answer is to use a password manager program. Such programs will generate strong passwords. They will also store them on your computer.
There are some other points to keep in mind to protect your identity. It is important to use a different password for each of your logins. This way a hacker who gains access to a password on one of your logins won't be able to use it for anything else. And of course, never give your passwords to anyone, even if they seem legitimate. So called "phishing" scams work by sending you an email that seems to be from your bank but in reality is just a trick with the purpose of getting your password. The best advice here is to never login from an email.
In summary, you can protect your identity with strong passwords by doing the following:
  • Always use strong passwords, consisting of random uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers for all your logins.
  • Use a password manager to generate and store your passwords.
  • Use a different password for each login.
  • Don't give your passwords to anyone no matter how legitimate they may seem.
  • Avoid phishing scams by not logging in from emails you receive.

There are number of reasons why you should have a Gmail account. For those of you who have lived under a rock for the past 20 years, Gmail is the world's top rated search engine on the World Wide Web. They have market cornered when it comes to searching for information. It does not matter what the information is. Google is there to help you look op why bats are blind, how to remove warts or even the history of Tibet. And Gmail is their very own email service that uses can use for personal use. So let me move on through giving you three reasons why you should have a Gmail account.
It Free
A wise man once told me that just because it is free does not mean that it is good. Well, this is an area that I would have to disagree with. Google provided Gmail to the mass market so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of having an email account. You do not have to have any money on hand to sign up for a Gmail account. All you need is access to a computer, tablet or a smart phone and you can get your email anywhere in the world just by logging in from your devise.
Easy to Use
Who said that only IT professionals and rocket scientist should have email access? Sign up for a free account and start enjoying connecting with your friends and family with a few clicks of the keys. The application is so easy to use that even the older generations will be able to get their email easily.
Extra Options
Whenever you log into your Gmail account you will now notice the little icons in the bottom left part of the screen known as "Hangouts". Now uses can use Gmail as a tool to connect with their friends and family instantly. Hangouts are an instant messaging application a lot like the free AOL and Yahoo's Messenger. My favorite feature with the Gmail's version is that you can video chat with your friends and family individually or in a group hangout. This means a good amount of versatility when it comes to communicating with loved ones.
So there you have it. Three reasons why you should have a Gmail account in short order. It is a free service that everyone can enjoy. It is easy to use. And finally, the extras provided will help you stay connected to friend and family. Enjoy!
